Georgia Northwest Extermination Registration Practice Exam

Lyctid Powderpost beetles are known for creating small exit holes in wood as a sign of their infestation. These beetles specifically target hardwoods and their larval stage feeds on the wood, creating tunnels as they move through it. When the larvae mature into adults, they exit the wood, leaving behind these distinctive small holes, which are typically about 1/16 to 1/8 inch in diameter.

While large exit tunnels may be indicative of other types of wood-boring insects, Lyctid beetles are characterized by the size of the exit holes they make. Other signs such as webbing on surfaces or fecal pellets are also associated with pest infestations, but they pertain to different insect behaviors or species. The presence of the small exit holes serves as a clear and specific indicator of an active infestation by Lyctid Powderpost beetles, making it the correct answer in this context.
